Thank You for Supporting Consumer-Friendly Energy Legislation!
In January, Kentucky experienced its longest cold stretch in ten years. As energy usage spiked, the price of natural gas, a fuel used to generate electricity, surged to its highest level in four years. For ratepayers, these costs are later applied via the “fuel adjustment clause” on a subsequent electric bill.
Because electric cooperatives belong to and are led by local members, Kentucky’s electric cooperatives are always looking out for our consumers. We worked with members of the Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Caucus on Senate Bill 172, legislation that allows co-ops and other utilities to spread out the fuel adjustment charge over several months to make the bill more manageable.
Not only did the co-op caucus respond immediately, but the General Assembly also voted unanimously to approve the Fuel Surcharge Stability Act and provide this tool for winters and summers to come.
This is exactly the kind of responsive, common-sense approach that is needed in Frankfort and Washington. It is important that co-op consumer-members like you speak up and let these lawmakers know that we are paying attention and appreciate their leadership.
Act now to thank the legislators who stood by our side and voted to protect affordable, reliable energy in Kentucky.
