Keep It Up: Act Now to Protect Affordable Energy in Wyoming!

Wyoming’s rural electric cooperatives provide safe, reliable, affordable power to their consumer-members. But extreme weather, a century of fire suppression, and inadequate efforts to remove fuel loads from high-fire risk areas is increasing the threat of wildfires for Wyomingites and their co-ops.

When wildfires occur, residents who lose their homes and businesses have a right to be made whole. But court cases imposing steep financial penalties and the ensuing higher insurance rates will negatively affect co-op member-owners, causing them to shoulder the financial burden for these natural disasters.

Not-for-profit, member-owned co-ops who do their part to protect residents should not be punished for factors outside of their control.

Thankfully, a bill has passed in the Wyoming House with an overwhelming majority to help mitigate the risk of wildfires and protect rural electric co-operatives and their members from unreasonable lawsuits. And we need your help to make sure it passes in the Senate!

Use our simple form and urge your Senators to support a bill that will protect rural electric co-ops and their members from unreasonable lawsuits and excessive financial penalties — keeping energy affordable for all Wyomingites.
